Community contracted phenumonia with a double ear infection

Yes, this is what it looks like. A little boy with a cough and a snotty nose for about a week. Certainly Phin has a high pain tolerance to be dealing with all of this - and his only relief was benadryl and tylenol. This evening, we came home from the doctor and pharmacy with a medicine cabinet in a bag and instructions of how to make little Phin feel better. He should be feeling great by tomorrow evening - probably. So, he will get his appetite back and no longer require FOUR HOUR naps in the middle of the day. Go drugs, go!

Video time

Usually Phin sits in his strap-in chair to watch his video. The problem with that system is that Phin keeps getting bigger and bigger and the seat is really no longer "made" for a boy of his size. So, today I let him sit on the sofa (one of his favorite things) to watch his video about animals in the rainforest. He did a good job of paying attention until near the end. When he started wiggling around, the video magically turned off and we went on with our day! :)

Great Grandparents come to visit!!!

How lucky did our weekend turn out when we learned that the Great Grandparents would be driving through town and we were actually going to be IN town and without a ton of plans. They stopped through and got some reading and ball playing in with Phin before they were back on the road - headed to their next stop to see Grandma Barb. Phin had a blast playing games and showing off his extensive skills with his alphabet and numbers. The phrase of the day was "ball, get"

Phin loves to read...

He goes over to his daddy's chair often - with book in hand. We actually play a new game where Dan or I will read the book to Phin - stopping before the last word in the sentence. We let Phin say the word - as he's been reading these books for months and - most probably has them memorized word for word anyway. :)

The usual suspects:

All around the house, there are lineups - of random items. This is one of Phin's favorite surfaces to make a lineup. His AIRPLANE!


He also reads - all over the house and in a variety of positions.

15 week ultrasound!!!

This one is self explanatory. They have labeled all of the parts. :)




This is a front view of the babies head. The head is on the right side of the picture. The top of the head is at the very most right. You can see the holes for the eyes and mouth and the other big circle on the left of the picture is the abdomen. :)




This last one is a 3D ultrasound picture. She rotated the picture so we are looking at the baby head at the top center of the picture - like we would frame up a picture of you or me. Baby has their hand up to their face - ?maybe sucking on their thumb?



We are still a few weeks early to know if it's a girl or boy for sure - but on April 27th we will have the ultrasound through my OB (Grandma Barb is going to come down and help with Ethan during that ultrasound) and the baby will be big enough then to know for sure. All I can say right now - for sure - is that from what we saw, I can still have HOPE that it's a BOY! :)

15 weeks

So, this picture is similar but different. Note that I am wearing a different kind of shirt. The first picture, the green shirt shows an exact line where my stomach is at the bottom. The new picture, the gray shirt does not. Second, my hands are lower on my waist in this new picture. It changes the way, I think, my stomach looks. Anyway, this is me yesterday!

12 week ultrasound

Can you believe that I JUST got this photo CD yesterday. I guess Dan has had it for some time, but I just never got my hands on it. This scan was taken at 12 weeks, so you can imagine that things look a little different now. They did video of the baby doing a little jig (dance) - but it didn't make it to the cd. :( Oh well, it was fun to see. :)
I actually go back tomorrow to get another scan. I will be 15 weeks and a couple days. I am excited to see how different it will look. No, we won't know if it's a girl or boy yet. This baby will need a few more weeks before they can tell...

Last time with EP

Grandma Susie wanted to see a picture of how I looked when I was carrying EP. I believe I was about 4 months along here. In the picture below, I am about 14 weeks - so, 3.5 months.

Every day is different

I see his brain working and changing and he's learning every day.
On this particular day, he's now big enough to take the bowl off of the kitchen counter to "finish up" his breakfast.
He did just that - and do you see how happy he is in the second picture when it's "all done!"

I have no great story for these pictures. Most simply, they are pictures of my beloved son - on a random day when the camera was at hand. We love this little boy...

BIG BROTHER

We decided to tell friends of Phin's new status by this picture of him in his new shirt. Most of the comments we got were "He's so cute!" - meaning, they didn't "get it." Well, you can't say we didn't try! :)

I'm his biggest fan!

I know that sometimes, I post too many pictures from the same moment in time. The problem is that - I think he's so cute and I heart him so much. I can't pick just one.
So, here you are. Four pictures of my little man.

Phin loves his "beeks" and he loves it when his daddy reads to him.

Dan wanted cake, so I made some.
I have a couple rules in our house.
The first rule is that there is not usually a lot of sugar/candy in the house.
The second rule is that if there IS said foods in the house, Phin is allowed to eat them with the family.
SO, with that said, Phin got a few bites of cake.
He's not so sophisticated when it comes to icing - or maybe he's just "flavor savor-ing" for later.
The cutest part is that - it seems my son likes to fly with icing. I know who this baby belongs to!

Uncle Dave

Uncle Dave is a busy busy guy! We see him more than this blog would show. See, if we don't grab our camera the moment his in sight, he's disappeared by the time the camera comes out. So, on this particular weekend at Grandma's - we took the moment and saved it with the camera. Uncle Dave and Phin - relaxing.

Brush

Phin has some favorite things.
One is shoes - his, mine, daddy's.
Another is a brush and comb.
He also likes anything he can put on his head to be a hat (including things like socks and his sippy cup).
This is a picture of Phin - so very pleased to be holding a brush at Grandma Susie's house.

So, uh, I have some flip video to add in the next day or two about his first attempt at self feeding. Dan found it amusing.
Phin has, for some time been able to get the spoon of oatmeal or yogart in his mouth. BUT, the spoon still needs to be filled for him. On this particular day, I just WONDERED what would happen if I gave him both the food and the spoon. Would he know just exactly what to do?
The answer is no.

So, Phin has this THING about hats.
It's completely my fault.
I think he was pulled from my stomach wearing a hat. If not, there was one put onto his head immediately! To this day, if it's even a little cool outside, a hat is worn. So, Phin understands hats to be anything that can be worn on his head.
Often it's his sippy cup full of milk as he eats his breakfast.
Sometimes, it's his sock.
Today, it's a plastic bowl he has to play with.

Ya, so that whole thing about being a "nut."
The cat's box is actually a seat, see? Oh, and we brush the bottom of our FEET, not the top of our head. But, he's sooo cute and happy. What's a mommy to say about it???

So, sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.
Being a nut is Phin "thing" as of late.
At times, he PLAYS his drums and other times, they are really just handy seat and/or seat-footstool combos.

This top is Phin's last onesie. I guess I needed to photograph it - because it's his last sign of being a baby. :) He's getting so big and saying so much! Phin is becoming a little boy. In a few days, he'll be 1.5 years old. I remember a year ago, I was excited to get to know who this little boy was gonna turn out to be. Let me tell you what I know so far. Phin is happy. He laughs big and loud all of the time. Strangers have commented on how happy Phin is...
Phin loves books and learning the names of animals. He, like other little kids, loves to read books - sometimes the same book seven or ten times throughout the day. He also has a pretty good memory. Often, Dan will ask me where he learned a word from the book they are reading together. He just remembers...
Phin is independent. He likes to walk the halls at the gym - on his own. He knows the balls (for abs work) are in the group exercise room - and he loves to go there and look at them. Sometimes, we roll them around the room. Even after being told "no" repeatedly, Phin still likes to try to stand up on chairs. His own and his daddy's. He likes to rock hard and fast in his tiny rocking chair - to the point that it flips over throwing him forward or back. He's a little bit of a daredevil...
All in all, I am happy to know this stuff about him and I look forward to learning more. Phin is a good boy!




This probably makes me a mean mommy, but I saw what was going to happen and had my camera ready. He sat down in his stuffed toy box and it got stuck under the bookshelf. He was not a fan!



Did I mention that he's a bit of a daredevil???
